Council Happenings - 24 July 2020
For any residents who might be wondering where their annual rates notice is, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you about the additional support council has resolved to provide to all ratepayers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At our meeting in May this year, council resolved to offer additional support to our ratepayers through a number of measures including: broadening the scope of our Hardship Provisions, delaying the issuing of annual rates notices, and charging zero interest on overdue payments until the end of the year.
This means the issuing of the annual rates notice 2020/2021, which you would usually receive around this time, has been delayed until late August, therefore extending the payment period until 30 September.
The interest rate on overdue rates and charges has also been set to 0% from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2020, which undoubtedly will provide relief to many ratepayers.
This interest rate will change to 7% from 1 January 2021 to 30 June 2021, in accordance with directions from the Office of Local Government (OLG).
At this time, I am encouraging all ratepayers with outstanding amounts to contact council and enter into a payment arrangement, to help alleviate financial burdens and reduce undue financial distress.
Payment arrangements allow ratepayers to pay smaller amounts on a regularly basis, to help reduce the amount owing at the end of the relief period. For more information or to discuss a payment arrangement please contact council’s rates department on 4995 7777.
Council will continue to seek ways to support our community throughout these uncertain times.
And in more good news, council’s Community Small Grants Program will be opening next month. There will be three categories: Small Equipment, Community Development and Love Water. We will provide full details in the coming weeks.
For anyone else wishing to contact me about matters great or small, please also get in touch via phone 4995 7777 or email email@example.com and I will be happy to hear from you.
We’re all in this together.
