As part of Dungog Shire Council’s timber bridge replacement programme, construction of a new Bridge at Lostock replacing the existing Spooner Bridge has commenced.
Due to prevailing site conditions and other constraints, the new concrete structure will be placed on the same alignment as the existing structure. Council now wish to inform residents that preliminary works for the new bridge are now complete and demolition of the old structure is now due to commence.
The bridge contractor, Saunders Civilbuild Pty Ltd, have requested closure of the old bridge, for demolition works to commence Tuesday 3rd March 2020. To assist with traffic movements, Council has constructed a low level crossing for both light and heavy vehicle movements immediately adjacent to Spooner Bridge. This low level crossing is, however, subject to flooding dependent upon water being released from the adjacent Lostock Dam. It is therefore important that motorists monitor river levels using the depth indicator signs on location and cross only when it is safe to do so.
The low level crossing will remain in place until the completion of the works which is currently scheduled for Friday 25th September 2020 weather permitting.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the construction period and if you have any queries regarding this matter, please contact Council on (02) 4995 7777.
