Great Country Drives

Dungog Shire is in the Hunter Region of NSW and is renowned for its forests, mountains and clean rivers and picturesque villages and covers an area of 2248 sq kms. It is bordered in the north by the Barrington Tops plateau, which is part of the Great Dividing Range. The Shire consists of rugged to hilly country in the north to undulating landscapes in the south.

The attached brochure outlines four great country drives around Dungog Shire.  Please take time to enjoy our area and drive according to road and weather conditions.  During periods of heavy rain, please stay clear of flooded creeks, rivers and causeways.

Fuel availability around Dungog Shire

Please note there are no 24 hour service stations in Dungog Shire, there is no Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) available and there is no fuel available in Clarence Town.

Dungog

Fuel is available at Davey and Olsen (Dowling Street), Dowlings Caltex Service Station (cnr Hooke Street and Scott Avenue), Irwins Fuel and Food (15 Clarence Town Road) and Thompson’s Mitsubishi (23 Hooke Street).  Irwins Fuel and Food has the longest trading hours.

East Gresford

Fuel is available at Stewart Everett Mitsubishi (26 Durham Road).

Paterson

Fuel is available at Paterson Service Station and River Café (26 King Street) and Stockers and Partridge (38 Paterson Road).  The Service Station has the longest trading hours.

Vacy

Fuel is available at Vacy General Store (Gresford Road).

Toilets around Dungog Shire

Please note there are several accessible toilets around Dungog Shire. Toilets are available at several locations in the Barrington Tops National Park including the Willliams River picnic area at the start of the Blue Gum Loop trail (accessible) and the Jerusalem Creek picnic area at the Jerusalem Creek trail.  With the NSW State Forests accessible toilets are available at Allyn River Forest Park, Old Camp and White Rock (Upper Allyn) and Coachwood Camping Area, Frying Pan Creek and Telegherry Forest Park (Telegherry River).

Most public toilets around Dungog Shire have been modified so that the doors open outwards.
