Council Connect: 9 May 2025
Published on 09 May 2025
Good morning Dungog
There's a lot to go over today for your weekly update! My name is James Campbell for those who are unaware.
We had planned for the library to be closed at the beginning of next week to allow for the installation of a new roof. This is now being postponed due to a forecast of bad weather. Good news is that the library will be open as usual next week, and story time will go ahead next Wednesday morning. The works are now being scheduled for June.
The Clarence Town Bridge site establishment works are now underway for the new bridge. The team are establishing its site, hard stand area on the northern side of Brig O’Johnson bridge, and clearing of the site will commence to allow for pre construction works. During this time, there may be some disruption to traffic flow, with traffic control measures in place and speed limit reduced to 40 kms an hour. Please be patient and drive with caution. Keep an eye on any on our website for any further updates, and contact us if you have any questions about the project.
And a small update on the Gresford Suspension Bridge, the replacement bridge over the Paterson River at Gresford is a step closer, with preliminary works underway, and council expecting to go to market for a construction partner in the coming weeks.
And for those who have been following, just a small reminder that the draft Community Strategic Plan 2035 is currently on public exhibition. Please submit your feedback on this important plan, we would love to hear your thoughts to ensure that we have captured your hopes and aspirations for our Shire for the next decade. The Community Strategic Plan is like Council's guiding road map, and it's the primary document that leads all other council projects. So it's essential we have the community's input into this document so that we can ensure we deliver what is important to you. The plan can be found on the Council's website, with the public exhibition period closing on 16 May.
We've also held a number of community information sessions for the Strategic Plan. I was at the Clarence Town one just earlier in the week. Thanks to all those who attended.
Council is currently quite busy. So if you'd like a full roads and infrastructure update, please refer to the Council's website or Facebook page. Although I will just touch on upon a couple of matters.
Works on the Glen Martin Road project is scheduled to continue with sealing works scheduled for the first stage, and extended wait times are to be expected during this time. The barbecue replacement at Frank Robinson Park is complete, and solar lighting installation is scheduled to commence in mid to late May.
That's all I have for you today. Enjoy the rest of your week.
