EOI - Weeds & Biosecurity Committee

Dungog Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from members of the community to fill up to six (6) community representative positions on the Weeds and Biosecurity Advisory Committee.

The Committee provides advice and recommendations to Council on weed and biosecurity matters affecting the Dungog Local Government Area, and supports Council in fulfilling its obligations under the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW). Full details of the Committee's role are set out in its Terms of Reference, available from Council on request.

The Committee is an advisory committee of Council and has no delegated authority to make decisions on Council's behalf. Its objectives include:

• ●providing advice and recommendations to Council on weed and biosecurity management;
• ●assisting Council in implementing its responsibilities under the Biosecurity Act 2015 (NSW);
• ●encouraging coordinated weed and biosecurity management across public and private land;
• ●promoting community awareness, education and participation in weed and biosecurity programs; and
• ●identifying emerging weed and biosecurity risks affecting the Dungog Local Government Area.

2. Vacancy Details

• Up to six (6) community representative positions (voting members).
• Appointment is by Council resolution, following this Expression of Interest process.
• The Committee meets at least four (4) times each year.
• The term of appointment is consistent with the Council term, unless otherwise determined by Council. Members are eligible for reappointment.
• Members must disclose any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest in accordance with Council's Code of Conduct.

Council welcomes applications from members of the community with an interest in, or relevant experience or knowledge of, weed and biosecurity management within the Dungog Local Government Area — for example, landholders, primary producers, Landcare or bushcare volunteers, and residents with relevant environmental, agricultural or land management experience.

Late applications may not be considered. Should Council receive more eligible applications than there are vacancies, appointments will be made by Council resolution having regard to the mix of skills, experience and geographic representation across the Shire.
