Dungog Shire Council is delivering a new crossing over the Paterson River for the people of Gresford.
With joint funding from the Commonwealth and NSW Governments under the Betterment Funding program, the project will replace the aging Gresford Suspension Bridge which connects Gresford to an isolated community to the west of the Paterson River.
The new bridge will be a 68-metre concrete structure with single-lane vehicle access. Importantly, the new bridge will ensure all-weather access for emergency vehicles during heavy rain.
Council we be onsite from mid June 2026 to start pre-construction works. Council’s construction partner Bridge Marine and Engineering Pty Ltd will commence construction works in early August.
The new bridge is anticipated to take 12 months, meaning project works should be completed by mid 2027 (subject to weather conditions).
The current Gresford Suspension Bridge will remain open, however residents can expect some traffic delays during construction. Traffic management will be in place, and we ask residents and frequent road users to please be patient and follow the traffic signs.
