New Clarence Town Bridge Project Update

Council has secured a $20.6 million grant from the Australian and NSW Governments for the construction of the new Clarence Town Bridge. The project is to provide a new concrete structure upstream of the existing heritage listed Brig O’Johnston timber bridge. The new bridge will incorporate two lanes of traffic and a walkway on the upstream side.

Our team has already completed preliminary investigations, including concept designs, boundary identification, geotechnical investigation and environmental assessments. We are in ongoing discussions with adjacent property owners where construction may directly impact to ensure any concerns or suggestions they may have are also considered.

Additionally the existing Brig O’Johnston Bridge, which will remain under the ownership and care of Transport for NSW, will undergo rehabilitation after the new bridge is completed ensuring our town's connectivity is enhanced without losing a significant piece of our heritage.

Community Information Session:

In the next few months, we will be moving towards the release of the tender which is the public request for companies to submit proposals for the design and construction of the project. Prior to the tender release, we wish to engage with you, the residents and business owners of Clarence Town.

We therefore invite all residents to a community information session to learn more about the bridge project, share your input, and ask any questions you may have:
